Our family got to know Savanna in January of 2025, after the birth of our first child. She
was our postpartum doula, and the first person (other than my husband and I) to care
for our daughter. From our very first visit, I knew that she would be an excellent fit – she
was warm, kind, funny, and calm, which allowed both of us to feel at ease very quickly.
As a first-time mom, I had significant anxiety about so many things; Savanna talked to
me at length before and after assuming care, often staying well past the end of her shift.
She offered so many resources to me, and offered guidance that I would never have
received in other ways (support groups, ways to donate extra baby supplies, body
workers, etc). She offered so many extra supports such as help with babywearing,
swaddling, referrals for massage, etc.; she had a resource for any concern or need
brought to her attention. She was so helpful during her overnight shifts with us - she
would play “top chef” and prepare us delicious breakfasts, dinners, and was always
willing to do more than was asked. Our daughter, Eliza, was well cared for, hardly
fussing or crying overnight as she usually did for us. Eliza always had great days after
an overnight with Savanna, sleeping well for her naps and consistently calm in spirit.
Savanna would hold her, swaddle her, hum to her, and attend to her needs as we
would; additionally, she was wonderful with our animals (our “furry children”). As
desperate as we were for sleep, we wouldn’t have been able to relax unless our doula
was exactly the right person. Having a new person in your home, caring for someone
you didn’t know you could love so much, isn’t a task you can assign to just anyone. We
loved Savanna, and she eased our transition home in so many ways. I couldn’t possibly
imagine having a better experience – she is an asset to families and to the growing field
of birth workers.

I am writing this letter of recommendation for Savanna Brede as a postpartum doula. Savanna
spent four months with me, my husband, and my new son at the end of 2024. Her help and
support was invaluable to the three of us in many ways. She stayed at our house overnight to
care for our son which allowed us to get some sleep. During those overnights she taught us
many useful skills and different techniques to try to help him sleep and to generally care for him
as first time parents. She made us meals, helped clean up around the house, and even brought
groceries to our house multiple times as I was personally experiencing a difficult couple of
weeks emotionally and wasn’t caring for myself very well during that time. As well during that
time she reached out to check on me and see how I was doing.
I can’t say enough good things about Savanna and my experience personally with her as my
postpartum doula. As a first time mom, the learning curve was steep and knowing that I had
Savanna as an additional support was a lifesaver. When I would see that she was coming over
on our calendar it gave me a light at the end of a long week and I would save up lots of
questions to ask, knowing she could help with those answers. I was immediately comfortable
having her in my home and around my newborn baby and we continued to use many of her
helpful techniques long after the fourth trimester. I highly recommend Savanna as a postpartum
doula and anyone would be lucky to work with her.
